If you have to take the trim off, the 2 small center pieces of trim can be slid to right or left to expose the opposite end of the trim. A lot depends on how much sealer has been used when the window was installed. Once you have pushed the top of the window out and about 3/4 down the sides, it can be just lifted out of the top. May have to go back and forth prying an pushing before going down the sides. ![]() If the rubber breaks at this point you will need a new gasket! Starting at one of the upper corners do it again and push out on the glass to start the removal and work across to the other upper corner. Go all the way around at least twice to flex the rubber. On the inside gently pry the rubber gasket away from the headliner and base trying to unfold it or roll toward the glass. If you gasket is soft and looks good there is really no need to replace it as it can be cleaned and reused.Įverything (glass, gasket, and trim) S H O U L D come apart and go back together as a unit. Specifically: If you are replacing the rubber gasket, just cut away the rubber along the glass from the inside and gently push away the glass. I prefer to use a 12/14 guage insulated wire and a bit of soapy water as it is more slipery than the draw cord mentioned in the manual and pulls easier. Pay attention to the instal procedure using a rope. ![]() Not specific to the Thunderbird but once you read it you will know the procedure. Section #7 page 307 of the 56 Ford Car Shop Manual (red book) shows the general procedure to remove the rubber gasketed windshield and back windows. Many tops have distorted from improper storage and the back window fits very loose in the opening (mine included) and requires extra clips to hold the window in.Ģ) ALSO a pat on the back for buying the manuals!! 1) Believe it or not you are one of the lucky ones who has a back window that fits.
